RoddyRod This Time Around

•August 24, 2009 • 3 Comments

This song by Roddy Rod featuring Phonte and Carlitta Durand has been floating around for a while but this song right here does it for me every time I listen to it. For those who don’t know Roddy Rod is the third member (beat provider) from the group Maspyke and this song is off his album “Cuba After Market, which is more broken beat than it is hiphop.

New Music Mondays

•August 17, 2009 • 1 Comment

It’s 2 am so I’ll be quick with this. And even while heads are sleepin, it still qualifies as Monday. I just checked out two dope new videos and the first is from Toronto rapper, Saukrates, for his song, Ms Yesterday. I heard this on his MySpace a year or so back. It was dope then and it’s dope now. Saukrates continues to innovate and do his thing regardless of the critics and we love him for it.

The second is Dwele jammin with the folks for a live version of Travelin Girl, from the album, Sketches of A Man. Dwele is forever innovative and seems to be enjoying web 2.o for all it’s worth, plus he’s rockin a fat, old skool, gold rope chain, so points for that one.

Vintage Vibes

The name Paul E Lopes is known far and wide across this globe for rockin parties and honestly, you’d be hard pressed to find anyone unwilling to give this man props. More recent party-goers in Toronto recognize the name for his long standing Bump n Hustle parties with Mike Tull but in heads circles it’s all about the CIUT days when he hosted and deejayed the show Vibes N Stuff.

This is a mixtape from back in those day and  is chalked full of classic b-boy/soul choooones! I don’t know the exact year (1994) this is from but when i say mixtape, I mean that literally, the shit was ripped from a cassette for all you kiddies who forgot.

Pop, Locked & Loaded

I took some footage of the 6th Annual Pop, Locked & Loaded b-boy battle a few weeks back but i’m pretty dissapointed with my latest camera purchase so I don’t know how much footage i’ll be posting these days. Fortunately someone else has come to the rescue and tossed this up for all to see. The b-boys held it down this year without a doubt. Peace to Benzo, the organizer of the event, who announced that he is retiring from battling and shows. His legacy lives on.

No BFF’s For This Paris

(Props to Davey D for always reporting the real news) Race wars are emerging in Paris, TX where white supremist are protesting the presence of Black Panthers in “their” town. The Panthers are in town protesting a court decision to let off two white males who were on trail for the death of Brandon McClelland who was dragged and killed last September. Although I kinda saw this coming for a while now it still makes me sick to the stomach.
