Eddie Murphy is not impressed with Stevie

Eddie Murphy & Stevie Wonder

As you might not know I am an avid reader and as a result I recently picked up Nelson George’s Post-Soul Nation which provides the inspiration for this post. Before I get to the goodies let me pay homage to Mr George who without a doubt has been one of my favorite writers due to his in depth analysis that looks at art, culture, and music from a very progressive perspective. Post-Soul Nation is candid look at the African American experience via the lens of Mr George, who does a stellar job in recounting the various happenings during the tumultuous 80’s. George tells us about a then 20 year old Eddy Murphy and his uncanny impersonation of the legendary Steveland Morris aka Stevie Wonder during his famed run with Saturday Night Live. In the clip above we find the two together for a Saturday Night Live segment with Murphy being upstaged by the Mr Wonder – Classic. Thanks to the wonders of Youtube I was able to find the actual clip of the event.
